Award-Winning Florida Flow Fest Event Celebrates 6 Years
Lake Worth, Florida (PRWEB) October 26, 2016 -- The largest free public yoga, circus and flow arts festival in the country is returning to Lake Worth, Florida for its sixth year. Named Palm Beach/Broward New Times “BEST FEST” for 2014, Florida Flow Fest 2016: REVOLVE is happening again November 5-6 in Lake Worth’s Bryant Park, bringing Flow Arts into the spotlight.
The event will feature hundreds of fire dancers, hoopers, poi spinners and yogis attending to learn, teach, and practice. The festival, offering free public yoga workshops and a broad scope of circus arts instruction, has grown in its sixth year to offer over 70 workshops in a wide-variety of movement disciplines, taught by world-renowned instructors and performers. Master classes and workshops in flow arts, aerial arts, yoga and dance will take place throughout both festival days. Workshop passes are $60 for 2 days of unlimited workshops; offering an affordable rate compared to traditional yoga and movement arts festivals. This year Florida Flow Fest will also offer free workshops in yoga, poi spinning, juggling and hoop dance to the general public.
This year, Florida Flow Fest is playing host to the first ever All-Florida Acro Jam: acro yogis from across the state will be playing for hours to music by Momentology and the South Florida Drum Circle community, both Saturday and Sunday, starting at 5pm.
Flow arts are forms of movement and dance stemming from circus forms of object manipulation, that utilize props to enter a state of flow, described by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi as an exhilarating transcendent way of being in which effortless control and peak skill seem to erase a sense of time. Flow arts props include poi, staff and hoops; dancers manipulate props to add to the expressive qualities of their dance. The result is an awe-inspiring visual spectacle of improvised movement that inspires an audience to reconsider kinetic possibilities. This year’s festival asks: how do you revolve to evolve? How can we connect and play together in community, and co-create a revolution of joy within our own lives?
Free workshops in Yoga, Poi, Juggling, Contact Staff and Hoop Dance are offered at intervals throughout the festival, Saturday and Sunday. All free workshops are taught by local area instructors, promoting their own movement classes and inviting guest attendees to a flexible and supple body of work. Both Saturday and Sunday nights will feature major performances as the instructors take the stage. Fire dancing performances take place nightly as free entertainment for the general public.
Flow Fests was also a significant backer of the “ReInhabiting the Village” crowdfunding campaign, a multi-media book and online community hub project co-created by an alliance of visionary partners contributing knowledge to foster thriving projects, organizations, and communities. “ReInhabiting the Village” books will also be available at Florida Flow Fest; a 352-page graphically rich, full color, soft cover book. Featuring 60 selected contributing authors, and showcasing the work of 14 Visionary Artists, the book offers an array of perspectives and resources that are useful to communities worldwide.
