San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) October 10, 2013

As fall weather quickly approaches, many people will turn to the outdoors to get their exercise.

People who enjoy walking, running, or bicycling as a primary source of exercise must take the proper precautions to avoid pain or injuries to their feet.

First, make sure to wear properly-fitting shoes. Dr. Ford recommends replacing shoes when they start to become worn, especially in the soles. For arch support, he also recommends using inserts or orthotics. Such orthotics are available in his office to help patients get the support they need, as well as prevent and relieve pain.

Dr. Ford also says proper foot hygiene is important, which includes cleaning them using a pumice stone to remove the dead skin, preventing calluses, and moisturizing them every day. He also recommends brushing feet each day, another good habit to get into.

Dr. Ford attended Texas A&M University, and Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He spent three years completing his residency at Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center in Phoenix, and is a member of the Texas Podiatric Medical Association, and the American Podiatric Medical Association. His areas of special interests are diabetic foot care, sport injuries, wound care management, and fracture management.
