Forbes Living TV is proud to announce that it will once again join forces with The Need to Feed in its quest to address poverty by teaching sustainability skills through community gardening and culinary programs.
After the rousing success of last summer’s trip to The Need to Feed’s community garden in Pompano, Florida, the Forbes Living TV show staffers ventured out to the organization’s Deerfield Beach location to lend a hand and a heart. As part of the its Community Giveback Day, the show’s volunteers got down and dirty, clearing weeds and planting hundreds of seeds for this year’s Spring/Summer season. In addition to donating its time and energy, the program also provided a number of tree pots for fruit trees.
“Fresh produce should never be inaccessible,” says Keith Spillman, Co-Founder and Certified Master Gardener of The Need to Feed, Inc. “Healthy foods play an integral part in combating obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and a whole host of other conditions, and it is the goal of The Need to Feed to change lives through fresh food.”
Executive Director and Chef Trina Spillman expressed tremendous gratitude for the extra help. "The Forbes Living TV show volunteers have been gracious enough to donate large fruit tree planter boxes for our papayas and star fruit, which will all then be donated to the local food pantries we serve."

The Need to Feed, Inc. is a nonprofit organization with a mission to supplement food pantries in Broward County, where more than 300,000 households face food insecurity. In addition to planting and harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables, the organization provides cooking demonstrations and meal services to promote healthy eating. Since 2012, The Need to Feed has grown over 3,000 pounds of fresh produce for food pantries in Deerfield, Pompano, Ft. Lauderdale, and Hollywood, serving over 8,000 meals to the community.
