Formaplex Helps Iconic Artist Allen Jones Create Kate Moss Super Model
Portsmouth, Hampshire (PRWEB UK) 18 September 2013 -- Jones, best known for his erotic sculptures, approached Andy Dance, head of the new Composites R&D Department at Formaplex, to work on the sculpture. “It’s great to work with Allen. It’s always an exciting and challenging experience and this high-profile project perfectly showcases the out-of-autoclave expertise and resources we have at Formaplex”, comments Dance.
The sculpture is due to go on sale at Christie’s in October as part of an auction of works that capture the extraordinary appeal of Kate Moss. Of the sculpture, Allen comments, “for some time, I have made sculptures that look like women. Here was an opportunity to make a particular woman look like my sculpture”.
Dance has a high-profile background in composites concept and build and has worked with Jones on a number of projects, including the homage to the Cadillac Ranch that featured in the Cartier Style et luxe concours d'élégance at the 2007 Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the recent sculptures Showtime and Think Pink.
“We surfaced the rough sculpture – took moulds, made components and painted them – all in strict accordance with Allen’s instructions”, explains Dance of the recent collaboration. “Working for Allen is exacting but that’s what we enjoy. Formaplex has invested a lot in the new Composites R&D department and paint workshop and this project shows exactly what we’re capable of”, he adds.
