Franklin University Announces Ross College of Business
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) August 29, 2013 -- Franklin University, one of the leading educators of working adults, is pleased to announce the naming of its business college as the Stanley M. and Richard M. Ross College of Business.
The naming of the Ross College of Business transfers and elevates the tribute bestowed on Stanley M. and Richard M. Ross more than a decade ago, when the University established the former Ross School of Management and Leadership. “The Board of Trustees continues to value the century-old relationship between Franklin University and the Ross Family,” stated Franklin Board Chair, Gary Flynn (retired President of Ross Labs, a division of Abbott). “Honoring this relationship by dedicating the Ross College of Business, which exists to educate future business leaders, aligns the innovativeness of the Ross Family with the mission of the College and University.”
“The Ross family has been long-time friends, leaders and supporters of Franklin University,” said Dr. David Decker, President, Franklin University. “The time and effort they have devoted to the University has been substantial, as has been their financial investment. Our business college has grown to be widely respected by area employers for shaping innovative, critical-thinking leaders, and naming the Ross College of Business is a fitting way for Franklin to express our sincere and continuing gratitude to the family.”
About The Ross Family
Stanley M. Ross was a 1903 graduate of Franklin when the University was still the Columbus Y.M.C.A. School of Commerce. With his fellow graduate Harry C. Moores, Stanley co-founded the Moores & Ross Milk Co., which eventually became a worldwide corporation. After Stanley’s death, his son Richard continued the company’s success, eventually merging with Abbott Laboratories to become the Ross Labs Division, a global leader in infant care product development. As a local leader and education advocate, Richard Ross served on the Franklin University Board of Trustees from 1978 until his death in 1993.
After Richard’s death, his wife Elizabeth carried on the family’s service to the University by continuing to be an active part of the Franklin family. “Franklin University is one of Columbus’ quiet treasures,” said Mrs. Ross. “I continue to be impressed with the University’s diversity of innovation and vision for growth, combined with their dedication to providing a flexible and practical education for working people in our community and beyond.” Mrs. Ross, who has supported the University with her time, leadership, and financial resources, including serving as Honorary Chair of the Second Century Campaign in the late 1990’s, received an Honorary Doctorate in Community Leadership from Franklin in 2007, in recognition of her commitment to the betterment of Central Ohio.
