Gateway to Cybersecurity Careers is through Community Colleges
BOSSIER CITY, La. (PRWEB) May 16, 2019 -- Community colleges across the nation are implementing or enhancing cybersecurity programs to grow and strengthen the workforce needs of the 21st century. The Community College Cyber Summit (3CS) will help them stay up to par. This event is being hosted at Bossier Parish Community College in Bossier/Shreveport, Louisiana, July 30 to Aug. 1.
Community colleges are accustomed to changing rapidly for workforce needs while providing workers with opportunities to maintain high levels of skill and knowledge. How they address cybersecurity education is no different—practical, adaptable and affordable educational pathways. The 3CS plays a role in that education.
By 2021, cybercrime damage costs are predicted to reach $6 trillion per year while the number of unfilled cybersecurity jobs is expected to triple, according to Cybersecurity Ventures. It’s no wonder so many people are ready to start or advance their cybersecurity. That is where 3CS comes in.
3CS is a conference focused solely on educating those responsible for cybersecurity education at community colleges. It helps raise institutions’ capability maturity level while helping them develop new labs, programs, practices, program components, methods of instruction, and courses. The event also includes a Job Fair and Career Exploration, and all-day workshops on Secure Scripting, Cybersecurity Skills Journal, Hands-on Cryptography, and Intro to IBM’s QRadar. New this year are two events catered to girls: IBM CyberDay4Girls (July 29) and Girl Scout Cyber Badge (July 30).
“Our sixth Summit promises to be the best ever, as so many colleagues have offered to give workshops and presentations to showcase and share their expertise. We will have over a hundred breakout sessions across the three days. And our Louisiana hosts are bending over backwards to offer Southern hospitality. This 3CS will be professionall;y exciting and informative, and enjoyable as well,” said Dr. Bob Spear, 3CS Chair.
