New Memoir Takes Readers on Travel Adventures of George Stephens
BEXHILL-ON-SEA, England (PRWEB) September 02, 2014 -- Author George Stephens traveled across much of the globe during his career in international marketing, in a business that went from millions to billions of pounds. Along the way, he met many people with different cultures, and had many memorable experiences. Stephens collected his memories into his new memoir, “A Head of My Time: Change through a Business Life” (published by AuthorHouse UK).
For 47 years, Stephens worked across the United Kingdom, Scandinavia, the Middle East and the Far East. “A Head of My Time” is Stephens’ record of the many places he worked and the many (sometimes humorous and sometimes harrowing) experiences he had working in multiple countries. Stephens stayed in some exotic hotels, including one overlooking a Formula 1 grand prix track. He traveled across East and West Germany before the Berlin Wall’s collapse. He witnessed office fist fights and the evolution of the business world from before electronic calculators, computers or Internet; when bowler hats and stiff collars were replaced by “dress down days.”
“A Head of My Time” is an interesting read about the changing world of financial services, without too much business content. Stephens thrived on looking, watching and listening, and then being creative. “I wanted to make change happen in many dynamic and, increasingly competitive, fascinating and evolving environments,” he says.
An excerpt from “A Head of My Time”:
“He told me two things: that my position would be reviewed in three months’ time and that in the meantime to ‘keep your eyes and ears open, but your mouth shut!’ I thought of my training period as a sort of Thomas Cook Office Tour. I have pondered from time to time what possible deeper message lay behind Kimber’s advice, but I was, nevertheless, very grateful for it. As my life in general and my business life in particular developed, acting as a piece of mental blotting paper (for those who can remember what that was) would prove to be a very useful and valuable skill.”
