Georgia CIO Leadership Association Announces Recipients of 2018 CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards

Executives from DeRodes Enterprises, UPS, SiteOne Landscape Supply, Colonial Pipeline, North Highland, Atlanta Braves, Georgia Technology Authority & Centers for Disease Control Recognized for their Achievements

The Georgia CIO Leadership Association (GeorgiaCIO) announced the winners of its 20th Annual CIO of the Year® ORBIE® Awards. GeorgiaCIO recognized chief information officers in eight key categories – Lifetime, Super Global, Global, Enterprise, Corporate – Large, Corporate, Nonprofit and Healthcare. The ORBIEs were presented at the Georgia CIO of the Year Awards at the Cobb Galleria.

“Today’s recognition of these CIO Executives’ ability to innovate and lead their organizations is the cornerstone of the Georgia CIO Leadership Association’s vision of developing transformative technology leaders who deliver business outcomes that impact their organizations, their industries, and our world,” said Tamara Lopata, Executive Director of GeorgiaCIO. “Being selected by their peers is testament to the innovation, leadership and perseverance these individuals have mastered in earning this prestigious recognition.”

The 2018 Georgia CIO of the Year ORBIE Award winners are:

Bob DeRodes, President & CEO, DeRodes Enterprises – Lifetime ORBIE Award recipient

Juan Perez, Chief Information & Engineering Officer, UPS – Super Global ORBIE for multi-national organizations with over $5 billion annual revenue

Sean Kramer, CIO, SiteOne Landscape Supply – Global ORBIE for multi-national organizations with over $500 million annual revenue

Marie Mouchet, VP & CIO, Colonial Pipeline – Enterprise ORBIE for organizations over $500 million annual revenue

Paul Falor, CIO, North Highland – Corporate – Large ORBIE for organizations up to $500 million annual revenue & over $10 million annual IT budget

Gregory Gatti, VP IT, Atlanta Braves – Corporate ORBIE for organizations up to $500 million annual revenue & under $10 million annual IT budget

Calvin Rhodes, State of Georgia CIO, Georgia Technology Authority – Nonprofit/Public Sector ORBIE for nonprofit, government & education organizations

Jaspal Sagoo, CTO, Centers for Disease Control – Healthcare ORBIE for hospitals & nonprofit healthcare organizations

The CIO of the Year ORBIE Awards is the premier technology executive recognition program in the United States. Since inception in 1998, over 650 CIOs have been honored as finalists and over 170 CIO of the Year winners have received the prestigious ORBIE Award. The Award honors chief information officers who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership. Finalists and winners are selected by an independent peer review process, led by prior ORBIE recipients, based upon:

  • Leadership and management effectiveness
  • Business value created by technology innovation
  • The size and scope of responsibilities
  • Engagement in industry and community endeavors

The CIO Awards ceremony was keynoted by Pat Gelsinger, CEO of VMware. Pat shared his industry experience as a global leader in cloud infrastructure, enterprise mobility & cybersecurity over a fireside chat with Bill VanCuren of NCR Corporation. Over 1,100 guests attended, representing leading Georgia organizations and their technology partners.

About the Georgia CIO Leadership Association

The Georgia CIO Leadership Association (GeorgiaCIO) is the preeminent professional association for Georgia chief information officers. Our membership is comprised exclusively of CIOs (or equivalent executive roles) from public and private companies, government, education, healthcare and nonprofit organizations.
