The Glenholme School to Celebrate its 50th Anniversary
Washington, Connecticut (PRWEB) September 26, 2017 -- Founded as an independent institute in 1968, The Glenholme School devoted the next five decades growing into an innovative leader in special education. In 2018, Glenholme will celebrate its first 50 years and set a course for the next half century.
Glenholme, formerly a world renowned horse farm for Hackney show ponies, was generously donated by Jean White Van Sinderen to Devereux in 1968. The bucolic property, comprised of over 100 acres and dozens of buildings, became The Glenholme School with the purpose of educating special needs students who were without quality services essential to leading successful lives. Since then, the school has positively impacted over 3,000 students from around the world who are challenged with high functioning autism, ADHD, OCD, Tourette, depression, anxiety, and various learning differences.
Preparations for the anniversary began in 2016 and activities are planned across all facets of the school throughout 2018. In late June, The Glenholme School will mark the highpoint with a gala event suited to such a momentous occasion.
Glenholme Executive Director Maryann Campbell appreciatively noted, "This is an incredible milestone for Glenholme, as evidenced by many of the individual successes we have seen walk through the doors of the school. From the sixties and up through today, there have been incredibly talented people who chose this field to help others who needed to learn to help themselves given their disabilities.”
Ms. Campbell continued, “We are blessed with the Van Sinderen gift of over 100 acres sprinkled with 32 buildings to put to use for educational programming and housing. All the while, we advance the program through capital campaigns contributions from grateful parents and committed friends for improvements like our Center for the Arts.”
In conclusion, she expressed, “Educators and boarding faculty teach through the behavioral treatment milieu that is infused with the school values; whereby effectively promoting the social development and academic advancement necessary for students to prepare for their futures. It is truly the community spirit and collegiate support that provide a positive path to students' success."
