Global Citizens' Human Rights Coalition join 100 Organizations to Rally for the Dissolution of the CCK
30,000 people gathered on the 27th at Gwanghwamun to protest against CCK for the organization's ongoing misconduct
GWANGHWAMUN, Korea, Jan. 29, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- About 100 non-governmental and religious organizations urged together for the banning of the Christian Council of Korea (CCK) for actions that the Coalition says to be harmful against the nation, society, and religion.
On the 27th of January, 2019, the "Press Conference and Rally to Call for the Shutdown of the Christian Council of Korea (CCK), an Anti-Nation, Anti-Society, Anti-Religion, and Anti-Peace Organization" was held, with around 30,000 citizens gathered at the Gwanghwamun Plaza in Seoul. The rally was organized by the Coalition to call for the Shutdown of the Christian Council of Korea.
In attendance at the rally were about 100 organizations including the International Women's Peace and Human Rights Committee (Director Lee So Yeon), the Christian Association for Anti-Corruption National Movement (Chairman Oh Hyang Yul), the IPYG Youth's Human Rights Committee (Steering Committee Member Seo Min Hyeok), and the World Buddhist Summit (President of the Korean Branch, Venerable Hye-won), who gathered in solidarity to urge for the dissolution of the CCK.
The event was attended by Chairman Oh Hyang Yul of the Christian Association for Anti-Corruption National Movement, Pastor Shin Young Mun of the Pastors' Solidarity for the Shutdown of the CCK, Venerable Hye-won, President of the Korean Branch of World Buddhism Summit, Evangelist Joo Hyun Sook of the Interdenominational Evangelists Association, Vice Chairwoman Goo Hyun Jin of the International Women's Peace Human Rights Commission, Seo Min Hyuk the Steering Committee Member of the IPYG Youth's Human Rights Committee, Elder Guk Yong Hi of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, Former Director of Seo-gu Incheon Yoong Gwang Kwon, Co-Representative Park Sang Ik of the Human Rights Association for Victims of Coercive Conversion Programs(HAC) and other influential figures.
This event took place before the CCK's chairman election on the 29th, to expose the CCK's blatant offenses it has committed against the President of South Korea, the government, and the media, despite its claim to represent the Christians of the nation.
These include: 1.) During the period of Japanese Imperialism, Presbyterian churches of Korea (many of whom are affiliated with the CCK), supported the dictatorship and worshiped Japanese shrine gods, 2.) in the recent decade, a total of 12,000 pastors affiliated with the organization were convicted and found guilty of crimes of murder, harassment, and fraud, 3.) the CCK initiated and continues to run a pricey coercive conversion program that forcefully converts believers of minority religions, violating human rights for the sake of financial gain, 4.) the organization created and distributed falsified news, confusing citizens - slandering unaffiliated churches and 5.) Elections for both the organization's chairman and pastoral positions are swayed by financial influence.
Furthermore, the Coalition denounced CCK's interference into politics citing the CCK's support of the amendment of the third term and the Yushin Constitution during the dictatorial government.
In recent news, two women of faiths unaffiliated with CCK churches, even lost their lives to CCK's coercive conversion program. Despite their death, the same program is still being conducted, endangering the lives of more citizens.
At the press conference the representatives of each organizations denounced the CCK for its actions against human rights, the nation, religions and society, and urged for active measures from the government.
The coalition states that the actions of the CCK prove that they are a harmful organization. This is a serious threat to the nation's reputation, and a religious disgrace to the international society, the coalition furthered. The coalition urges President Moon Jae-In and the government to listen to the citizens and protect human rights, by promptly implementing the 'banning of the coercive conversion and punishment law' to prevent coercive programs that oppress the freedom of religion from continuing.
