The Dutch Team back on top at EC-Council Foundation's Global CyberLympics World Hacking Games
Washington, DC (PRWEB) November 02, 2015 -- Twelve of the world’s finest hacking teams competed for glory at the Global CyberLympics World Finals on October 20th in Washington DC at ISACA’s CSX Conference. Teams earned their spots in the finals by beating teams in their home regions. The top 12 teams from around the globe were invited to compete live at the World Finals for a chance at cash prizes, trophies, but more importantly, the title of “World Champions.”
After 7 extreme hacking hours both in physical and computer security, Team Hack.ERS from the Netherlands took the title for the fifth time since Global CyberLympics’ inception in 2011. “We came more prepared than ever after we knew in 2014 we could be beat”, said the team captain. He went on to say, “But this time, we plan to never give it back” referring to Team Hack.ERS’s surprise defeat last year by the US team, Cyber Padwans.
IBM, the diamond sponsor of the event, were particularly excited about the talent on display at the Games. Says Shelley Westman, IBM’s Vice President, Operations & Strategic Integration Initiatives, “Cybercriminals are becoming more and more sophisticated, while the security industry is facing a growing talent gap. Contests like these are a critical tool in challenging security professionals to test and improve their skills, while also attracting some of the greatest emerging talent to join the fight against cybercrime.”
"Global CyberLympics has always been a showcase for the best players in IT security and this year was no different as the competition reached new levels," said Eric Lopez, Director of the EC-Council Foundation. "We enjoyed watching these elite gamers compete at the World Finals to support our mission of unifying global cyber defense through the Games."
Nearly 1,500 attended ISACA’s CSX conference to cheer on the intense hacking competition and watched as the teams took on difficult challenges to take home the glory. In addition to the hacking games, players enjoyed a Global CyberLympics mini-reunion as 2014 champions, The Cyber Padawans, returned to defend their title and four-year champions, Team Hack.ERS, come to win it back. Five other teams returned from previous years for another chance at the title.
Team HackERS walked away with $1000 in cash prizes, medals, and the World Champion CyberLympics Globe. They also were given all the team flags that were there to compete against them including second place winners, Sector C also from the Netherlands, and third place winners, CTRL+ALT+DEL from the United States. All in all, they took home 8 country flags, starting with their own Netherlands and to include India, Brazil, Argentina, Russia, Nigeria, Australia and United States.
They do indeed plan to come back next year to defend their title along with all the other 140 total teams that participated in the competition. Until then, they will enjoy their win and start preparing for next year. To learn more about CyberLympics and how to get involved in the games, visit http://www.cyberlympics.org.
