Globasure Rolls Out Smart Roaming SIM Connectivity Solution to Combat Connectivity Challenges in Cashless Nigeria
(PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- Network Connectivity has been identified as one of the major issues hindering the massive deployment and adoption of payment terminals in Nigeria since the inception of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Cashless Initiative in 2012. GPRS availability has been very erratic, unstable and sometimes, unavailable. In a bid to combat this network challenge and improve network connectivity, Globasure has introduced the Globasure Smart Roaming SIM (gROAM) connectivity solution.
gROAM is designed to select the network with the strongest GPRS strength at its locations at every given time. Depending on the settings on the EFT-POS, it allows for either manual selection of preferred network or automatic selection. If no network is selected, it automatically switches to the network with the strongest GPRS signal. With a single SIM, a payment terminal can access the four GPRS networks available in Nigeria – MTN, Glo, Airtel and Etisalat at the same time.
According to the Managing Director of Globasure, Chris Ife, “The availability and the smart switching between these telecom networks in a single SIM help reduce POS downtime thereby increasing transaction volumes processed by the terminals.” Asides the minimization of network downtime, optimization of network availability, the stress of SIM swap has been completely eliminated by the use of gROAM.
A successful pilot of gROAM has been conducted with Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, First City Monument Bank, United Bank for Africa, First Bank and Ecobank. Full deployment of the gROAM has commenced nationwide, with the United Bank for Africa. The gROAM are deployed to the merchant locations with UBA EFT-POS terminals. Rollout of gROAM to other banks has also begun.
