GLOW, a refreshing animated feature now funding on Kickstarter, is at the halfway mark of its campaign. With over $10,000 in funding, the movie is garnering attention, but the team is hoping for a surge in funding in order to meet the $125,000 goal.
“We’ve worked incredibly hard to get this animation where it is today, and we are so passionate about what it has the power to do for society,” says GLOW producer Patrick Cheh. “With the challenging environment that surrounds our families and our children today, it’s important that we give people awesome entertainment that reinforces the value of love.”
The GLOW team brought their animated feature to Kickstarter when they discovered the difficulty of getting funding for an independent animation. Because high profile animated features often cost over $100 million, financing them can be nearly impossible. Financiers are almost never willing to gamble on an unknown property when it comes to making animations. This creates a gatekeeping mechanism in the animation industry, which keeps some of the most profound features, such as GLOW, from ever seeing the big screen.
Cheh developed the GLOW concept with the help of his two close friends: Spike, a talented artist, and Joong, a gifted storyteller. Inspired by several life-changing events, the team wanted to create the type of entertainment that would not only captivate its audience with all the elements of a great movie, but also with a heartfelt message that would promote the light of goodness in the world.
