Gluent Delivers Data Discovery, Lineage and Operational Visibility with GDP 2.11.0
Gluent announces the immediate release of GDP 2.11.0, with support for Cloudera Navigator and enhanced diagnostic functionality.
DALLAS, Oct. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Gluent – "Glue for the Enterprise" takes on the challenge of helping companies embrace modern hybrid ecosystems by integrating traditional Databases and modern Big Data and cloud platforms. Gluent Data Platform (GDP) allows clients to easily liberate data from traditional relational databases by virtualizing data across big data and cloud environments without any changes to existing legacy applications. Gluent provides this functionality via no-ETL Offload(s) and Present(s) of the data to wherever query access is needed. This capability enables traditional Database Administrators and Developers to leverage their existing skill sets and stay relevant as Big Data and cloud platforms become the enterprise standard for data storage and processing. Gluent is pleased to announce the general availability of GDP 2.11. This release provides enhanced insights and visibility across the hybrid environment through improved data discovery integration and operational reporting.
Introducing data discovery and lineage alongside Cloudera's Navigator to provide seamless integration
Gluent has integrated its Offload and Present functionality with Cloudera Navigator, an automated, self-service data governance tool for Hadoop. It automatically tracks data movements within the Hadoop ecosystem to provide capabilities such as data discovery, continuous optimization, audit, lineage, metadata management and policy enforcement. This integration enables users to automatically add (customizable) tags and metadata to all data that is virtualized by Gluent's software and provide data lineage and data discovery information beyond the boundaries of Cloudera's Navigator. This extends the visibility into the source of data prior to it entering into the data lake. These capabilities further highlight Gluent's ongoing role as a key actor in customer data management strategies.
Gluent's Advisor provides clearer visibility
Gluent has launched a self-service Advisor Portal for customers alongside a number of product enhancements to the Advisor software. Gluent's Advisor provides an outstanding visual representation of a database's offload potential. A number of significant improvements have also been made in the GDP 2.11 release. Performance stabilization and monitoring improvements have been made to the Advisor Data Extractor, including globalization support. The HTML and text Advisor reports now provide more information about the database environment itself. Overall usability is greatly improved making it feasible to run the Advisor on all databases in an organization and store and compare the recommendations for historical comparisons to monitor the effectiveness of offloading.
In addition to Gluent's Advisor Portal, GDP 2.11 now provides visibility into the offload status and space reclamation opportunities across the entire hybrid environment. The Gluent Offload Status Report has been completely redeveloped in line with the standard look-and-feel of the GDP family of products. It provides a number of benefits such as Hadoop storage information for offloaded data, details of all hybrid objects, a rich HTML report format for improved visuals, alternative output options such as CSV and text-mode reporting and APIs for data integration with UI tools in the future. It is a powerful companion tool to Advisor, with the tools framing the pre- and post-offload processes with similar, high-quality visuals.
2.11 release provides operational insight and ease of management with diagnostic and performance improvements
Gluent's software generates detailed diagnostic information during its operation. Gluent also provides high-quality interactive diagnostic tools such as Connect and enhanced end-to-end SQLMon reports, and the 2.11 release makes support even easier by including the new Diagnose tool. Diagnose enables users to easily and automatically collect and package a wide range of diagnostic information when requested by Gluent Support. In addition to logs, traces and other file-based diagnostics, Diagnose also extracts information on Gluent installation and objects created on the source and target databases.
As with previous releases, the 2.11 release includes several performance improvements. The Advanced Aggregation Pushdown feature has been enhanced to push down more expressions and functions for early-filtering of data. This can lead to a dramatic reduction in the volume of data that has to be returned and filtered during query processing. In addition, DATE and TIMESTAMP pushdown has been extended to support a wider range of formatting expressions and Oracle's native TO_TIMESTAMP function is now supported for predicate pushdown.
GDP 2.11 release also includes a number of improvements to the deployment and overall operation of Gluent software. For example, the identification and setting of some critical environmental configuration values during installation has been automated. During installation, it is now possible to output Impala/Hive UDF commands rather than execute them; particularly useful for customers with tight controls on cluster deployments.
Gluent continues to extend and improve functionality with this latest release making it easier for companies to embrace modern hybrid ecosystems. Gluent GDP 2.11 is now available for customers to download. For more information please visit http://www.gluent.com.
