San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 27, 2014
According to Auto News, on June 24, General Motors asked dealers to stop delivery of all 2013 and 2014 Chevrolet Cruze sedans due to a possible manufacturing defect in the driver-side airbags.* While the company has yet to issue a recall, the stop-delivery order is the latest development in the safety-related saga for GM, who has already recalled some 20 million vehicles this year.
In light of the stop-delivery order, the San Diego personal injury lawyers of The Law Office of Melinda J. Helbock, A.P.C. are announcing that they are investigating potential claims on behalf of individuals who have suffered injuries in accidents involving recalled vehicles and their families.
According to Auto News, GM issued the stop-delivery order because some of the airbags may have been assembled with the wrong part. The company is asking dealers to hold onto the vehicles until it can determine which autos have been affected.*
“We are curious to see if this turns into another recall,” said Melinda Helbock, Founding Partner of The Law Office of Melinda J. Helbock, A.P.C. “We are watching this safety report closely as we continue to investigate claims on behalf of people possibly injured as a result of defective GM parts.”
If this turns into a recall, it would be the 45th recall issued by GM this year. The company has already recalled 17.73 million vehicles in the U.S. for a range of problems, some of which date back to over a decade ago.
General Motors is currently under investigation for its handling of an ignition switch defect, a problem that the company said it knew about more than a decade ago. So far, at least 80 lawsuits have been filed against GM for the ignition switch problem, a few of which allege serious injury. The defect, which causes the engine to shut off and airbags to disable without warning, has been linked to 54 crashes and 13 deaths, according to a June 9, 2014 article by Fox News.**
The ignition switch recall, which involves approximately 2.6 million vehicles worldwide, spurred a flurry of recalls for the company.
