Golden Meadows Retrievers Now Offers Expertly Trained Puppies

"We begin training puppies as young as 4 weeks old. The initial training is to respond to a whistle, a hand clap or a snap. We do this by giving the puppies these cues before we feed. At 6 weeks we start working the puppies on a more individual basis. We begin to teach them to walk on a leash, and start their obedience training with sit, stay, and down", explained company representative Nikki Asher. She also commented that, "We begin crate training at this time, by feeding the pups in individual crates. We strongly believe that crate training is the easiest and most natural way to house train a puppy. Dogs still retain a 'den' instinct. In addition to complete puppy training, Golden Meadows Retrievers offers a program known as "started training". Customers can choose pups that have begun training but are available to go home. This basic training course includes crate training and teaches the puppies to sleep through the night without having an accident. The dogs will come when called with a whistle or a snap. Each puppy has begun learning the basics of sit, down, stay, high 5, wait at the door, fetch and drop, and not to jump on people. Buyers can complete their puppy's training at their own pace.
Asher stated that, "By the time they are 8 to 12 weeks old, the pups have learned both verbal and visual cues for sit, stay, down, and high 5. They are also well on their way to learning how to wait at the door, walk nicely on a leash, and not to chew, bite, bark or dig. The highest level of trained golden retrievers includes off leash obedience, specific service needs, and other fun tricks, depending on the dogs' abilities. By the end of professional training, some puppies have completed their championship titles, and some would make excellent service or therapy companions. Most have earned their Canine Good Citizenship."
