California Girl Wins Fundraising Raffle, Renames Golden Meadow Retriever Puppy to Hazel to Honor Girl with Stage 3 Cancer
(PRWEB) July 23, 2013 -- When a young local girl named Hazel was recently diagnosed with high-risk, stage-three Neuroblastoma, the staff at Golden Meadows Retrievers eagerly joined together with the Talbert Family Foundation in creating a fundraising raffle to raise money to benefit Hazel’s family. A month later, the winning raffle ticket has been pulled and Golden Meadows Retrievers is now pleased to announce the lucky winner.
Neuroblastoma is a malignant tumor that develops from nerve tissue and when Hazel, a local two-year-old child was diagnosed with an aggressive form of the dangerous disease, the owners and staff of the Golden Meadows Kennel in Moorpark, CA felt compelled to step in and help.
“Golden Meadows was truly touched by Hazel’s story,” says Barbie Hoke, one of the owners of the renowned Golden Retriever breeding kennel. “We couldn’t be happier about helping to raise money for her family.”
Standing as the grand prize and incentive to the donors, Golden Meadows Retrievers has hand-selected one of their prized puppies named Ellie May to be gifted to the grand winner. After collecting a large amount of funds to benefit Hazel and her family, the touted breeding kennel is now pleased to announce that the winner of the raffle and the new Golden Retriever puppy is a young lady named Courtney.
"More breeders and shelters should take a page from the Golden Meadows Retrievers handbook,” exclaims Courtney about her puppy prize. “Thank you guys for our new addition! She is perfect!"
Conveniently, Courtney knows Hazel’s family and plans to have play dates with Hazel and Ellie May whenever Hazel feels up to it but, perhaps even more rewarding, is the fact that Courtney has decided to rename Ellie May to the beautiful name of Hazel, in honor of the little girl that inspired the entire charitable episode.
