The new campaign fundraises in support of Lenoir/Greene United Way and those affected by the devastation of Hurricane Matthew. Flooding in the state has caused at least $1.5 billion in damages with over 100,000 homes and businesses affected. At least 26 residents of North Carolina lost their lives. Progress in the recovery from Hurricane Matthew is a slow but steady effort being made by dedicated state officials, compassionate volunteers and local communities working together. Lenoir/Greene United Way provides vital outreach to families affected by the storm in Lenoir and Green counties with an eye toward avoiding duplication of effort for maximum effectiveness. The Unmet Needs Committee is a team which combines the support of local businesses, the faith community and other nonprofit organizations who are striving to provide short-term relief and long-term disaster recovery funding for agencies offering services for community needs which are going unmet.
