GoMacro Loses Historic Barn, Birthplace of the MacroBar, to Fire on Wisconsin Family Farm
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 07, 2014 -- GoMacro, the manufacturer of the MacroBar, announces with a heavy heart the loss of its historic barn at the family's 120 acre farm in southwestern Wisconsin. The barn housed the company's test kitchen, the original GoMacro facility and a nearly complete five-bedroom home. Fire swept through the property on March 28 at approximately 4 p.m. Investigators continue to seek a cause, but, thankfully, no one was hurt in the blaze.
"This is especially difficult for us because it truly was the birthplace of GoMacro. We had every intention of keeping the original facility so that we could always remember how we started," GoMacro CEO Jola Sonkin said.
The barn was and remains to be a part of the company's inspiration and will be rebuilt, according to Sonkin. "This event will definitely affect GoMacro, and I know will make us stronger as a family-owned company," she said.
Production of GoMacro's wholesome nutrition bars remains unaffected by the loss and continues at the company's Viola, Wisconsin facility. GoMacro was founded on five core principles, including vegan, wholesome, macrobiotic, sourced sustainably and gives back. "Our core principles will continue to guide us as we set our sights on rebuilding for a stronger future," Sonkin said.
About GoMacro
GoMacro was founded in 2004 by mother and daughter team, Amelia Kirchoff and Jola Sonkin. Faced with cancer in the family, they researched treatments and discovered the macrobiotic diet; a diet based on whole grains, beans, fresh fruit and vegetables and the elimination of eggs, dairy, refined sugars, additives and processed foods. Better health brought along a bigger appetite – including sweets. After creating macrobiotic desserts to satisfy their sweet cravings, the concept of GoMacro arose.
Using a thoughtful approach to producing real food, GoMacro remains true to the macrobiotic promise of better health, a balanced lifestyle and a concern for the environment and all its inhabitants. GoMacro products use organic, gluten-free ingredients, complex carbs and healthy fats to create a nutrient dense bar with better absorption of vitamins and minerals.
MacroBars can be purchased online or in natural retailers throughout the country. Please visit GoMacro’s store locator for a list of locations where products are sold.
