The Garden State Wine Growers Association will hold the annual Grand Harvest Wine Festival on October 3rd & 4th at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morristown, NJ. The festival will be open from 12-5pm each day, featuring 19 NJ wineries, food trucks, arts and crafts, kids’ activities, and live music each day. This will be the fourth of five annual statewide wine festivals produced by the GSWGA this year. It’s the perfect time of the year for a northern NJ festival, as the early fall foliage promises to etch the surrounding Morris County skyline with color.
As a special new feature, the Grand Harvest Wine Festival is featuring a two-day slate of food & wine talks and presentations sponsored by edible Jersey magazine. Some of the talk topics over the weekend will include a ‘state of the industry address’ from Association executive director John Cifelli, a presentation on mixing wine cocktails with the beverage managers of the Harvest Restaurant Group, and wine & cheese pairing instruction from Maria Tisdall, owner of Cheese...Please!- a specialty foods and cheese shop in Cranford. “We have long applauded the GSWGA's annual array of festivals, which provide an outstanding venue to introduce consumers to the quality and range of brands statewide,” said edible publisher Nancy Painter. “We are delighted to team up with the Association to offer a day of educational seminars that explore the wonderful relationship between wine, food and other aspects of the epicurean experience.”
The long stretch of hot and dry weather has set up NJ for a grand harvest indeed! Grapevines thrive within dry conditions, and there has been little rainfall for the state in the last two months. “2015 will likely go down as one of the best vintages for New Jersey in a long time,” says Association Chairman Mike Beneduce. “Yields are above average, and statewide the reports are that the fruit quality is excellent.”
Bands will play from start to finish each day of the festival. Sassfaction owns the stage on Saturday. Self-described in four words- “we bring the party,” they’ll give their trademark high-energy performance that makes them one of NJ’s best known club acts. The Heartbeats follow on Sunday, led by Lindsay Pagano, a recent contestant on NBC’s The Voice. There’s a flavor for every foodie, with food trucks offering delectable bites including flatbread wood-fired pizzas, BBQ, and empanadas from the Empanada Guy. Artisan food and craft vendors will have their wares available, allowing patrons to peruse specialty foods such as handmade pastas, sauces, spices, oils, vinegars, and more. The event is family friendly, with a crafts activity tent for kids to enjoy as well.
Tickets are $25 for adults; while those under 21 are free. Tickets can be purchased online in advance at a $5 discount, which is available through Friday the 2nd. Designated drivers receive entry for $5.00 at the gate. Admission includes a souvenir wine glass that can be used to sample the wines.
