GTT Group to Sell Internet of Things Patent Portfolio
Portland, OR (PRWEB) April 14, 2016 -- Global Technology Transfer Group, Inc. (GTT Group), the premier provider of patent brokerage and patent transaction advisory services to information and communication technology companies worldwide, announces the availability of a patent portfolio related to Internet of Things that provides an innovative approach for discovery of, and communication between, devices in a connected environment.
The portfolio contains two issued U.S. patents and one U.S. application. The patents focus on an application program interface (API) that supports applications for consumer electronic devices, for instance in a Connected Home. The claimed API allows users to have multiple connected devices from different manufacturers and still allow them to communicate and coordinate with each other. The portfolio has a priority date in 2011 and an expected life extending for 15 years.
The portfolio also enables users to have topic-based conversations that limit network communications to relevant devices. For instance, for a conversation on the topic of "intrusion," devices such as a television, cell phone, security system, and camera can communicate in order to implement particular security functionality. This ensures that all relevant devices are included in the conversation and therefore aware of pertinent communications. This also excludes non-relevant devices from the conversation, thereby adding an additional layer of security.
The Internet of Things market is experiencing tremendous growth and there is expected to be 29.5 billion connected devices by 2020. Connected devices can be found in a variety of applications including homes, cars, healthcare, factories and retail.
A key issue with connected environments is the lack of interoperability between non-compatible devices. Most current solutions utilize proprietary device discovery and communication protocol, which is not ideal for end-users or for developers. The Internet of Things Patent Portfolio provides a straightforward method for improving device interoperability.
This portfolio has specific applicability to Connected Home APIs that enable application developers to provide communications between various Connected Home devices (lights, appliances, security system, mobile phone, etc.) based on a specified topic of conversation, and that also provides the added benefit of support for multiple device discovery protocols.
“The claimed API utilizes multiple discovery protocols and topic-based conversations to enable dissimilar connected devices to discover and communicate with one another,” said GTT Group Director of Asset Services, Andrew Godsey. “This reduces the burden on developers and provides end-users with a truly connected experience.”
GTT Group has prepared materials to illustrate the value of the portfolio. To receive more information about this opportunity, please contact Andrew Godsey. All inquiries will be kept confidential.
GTT Group will approach potential buyers and provide materials explaining the strategic advantages of acquiring the portfolio. In addition, GTT Group’s experts will be available to discuss the strengths of the patents and evidence of use in the market. The portfolio will be sold at a private auction in June 2016.
