After the Vietnam War ravaged his home country and separated him from his family for 20 years, author Hao Van Nguyen was inspired to write his 2005 memoirTrue Story: Vietnam to America” (published by AuthorHouse).

This year, Nguyen’s book is receiving a new marketing plan, complete with an appearance at the 2014 American Library Association midwinter conference and fresh press materials.

Between the covers of “True Story,” readers will experience Nguyen’s personal transformation and life, from upbringing to uprooting, innocence to war, straight to gay and ultimately from Vietnam to America.

The number one issue discussed within Nguyen’s memoir is the issue of gay acceptance. He shows the Vietnamese perspective of homosexuality as a rigid and close-minded one, giving readers a new look at the issue of sexual discrimination overseas.

Nguyen says he wants readers to feel like they have survived, just as he did, after reading his touching journey from despair in Vietnam to acceptance and success as an entrepreneur in the United States.
