Sales Activity Represents an Unprecedented Move Higher During a Year of Covid

We heard plenty of anecdotal evidence this challenging past year describing how people were migrating from city life to suburban and resort life. All in an effort to find less crowded neighborhoods, purchase a residence with flex, child-learning and home office space, and seek out expanded outdoor living space to accommodate social distanced entertaining.

That anecdotal evidence is born out in a remarkable residential sales year at Harbor Club, an embracing 1,000-acre lake and golf community on the shores of Lake Oconee, just an hour east of Atlanta.

With the year-end numbers in the books, Harbor Club Properties has announced a 31.7 % increase in real estate sales compared to 2019, according to the Lake Country Board of Realtors. Harbor Club reports that $43.6 million in home, homesite, cottage and townhome properties were sold last year compared to $33.1 million in 2019. The 2020 sales activity represents the sixth consecutive year of double-digit percentage increase in sales at the community.

The $43.6 million in sales in 2020 was comprised of 139 transactions, 77 of which were driven by Harbor Club Properties, a partnership between Harbor Club and the Atlanta-based sales and marketing specialists, @Ansley Developer Services, led by Director of Real Estate Sales Kathy Phillips.

Says Phillips, “No one could have predicted back in January the life challenges we would all face through the year. We have been fortunate to be able to introduce prospective homeowners to a property by touring the community in separate vehicles, masking-up, keeping a hygienic team ready to clean a property before and after a home tour, and even selling through virtual tours.”

The most active home sales at the community landed in the $300-600,000 range, a value price compared to competitors in the market. Additionally, the community welcomed a variety of new-construction builds by existing property owners, builders and Harbor Club’s own in-house Patriot Builders, which uniquely offered a free golf club membership to new-home buyers.

Harbor Club also welcomed 108 new families to the community in 2020, and added 89 new club members. Harbor Club continues to be the only major community on Lake Oconee to offer residents a social membership option. Additionally, they have a variety of non-resident and corporate golf membership programs available.

Looking forward, Harbor Club will be opening its fourth Southern Living Inspired Home to virtual public tours this spring. The community is one of only a handful of places in the country to have been handpicked as a Southern Living Inspired Community by the magazine’s editors, whose criteria for the recognition includes ‘neighborhoods marked by charm, taste and Southern spirit that embody a distinctive pride of place’.

Additionally, in November Harbor Club formally opened its new six-court pickle ball center at The Grove near the community entrance. It also expanded its dry boat storage capacity at the award-winning Boathouse marina complex.
