The Marfan Foundation Celebrates 14th Heartworks Gala on April 10 in New York City
Port Washington, NY (PRWEB) April 10, 2014 -- The Marfan Foundation holds its 14th annual Heartworks gala tonight at Cipriani 42nd Street. At the gala, the Foundation will honor Dr. Abe DeAnda, a cardiovascular surgeon who is the director of the Thoracic Aorta Program at NYU-Langone Medical Center and chief of cardiothoracic surgery at Bellevue Hospital, with the 2014 Hero with a Heart Award. Not only is Dr. DeAnda an outstanding surgeon and researcher, but he is also a staunch advocate for the Marfan syndrome and related disorders community outside of the hospital. He is active with the local Marfan support group on Staten Island, spearheads medical education on Marfan syndrome and related disorders, and regularly promotes Marfan syndrome awareness on his radio program on Doctor Radio on Sirius XM.
“Dr. DeAnda is a long-time supporter of our Foundation who has shown extraordinary commitment to every area of our mission. Like us, he is dedicated to the fight for victory– when everyone living with Marfan syndrome and related disorders is diagnosed, receives the proper treatment, and lives a long and full life,” said Carolyn Levering, President and CEO of The Mafan Foundation. “We are so grateful to the champions in our gala leadership who make it possible for us to honor Dr. DeAnda and hold such a tremendous event.”
The corporate host of Heartworks is Karen Murray, President, VF Sportswear, and Michael R. Bloomberg, honorary chair of Heartworks for the 13th consecutive year. The master of ceremonies for the event is American director, theater, film and television actor, and Tony-Award winner James Naughton; WNBC-TV’s chief meteorologist Janice Huff will also be on hand to help with the proceedings. The entertainment will be provided by the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus.
Heartworks has raised more than $10 million for the Foundation to date. The proceeds from the event are earmarked for the Foundation’s programs and services in the areas of education, patient support, and research.
