Henninger Media Services' New “VIP” System Removes The Barriers Of Time And Distance To Give Clients “The Henninger Experience” Anywhere
Arlington, Virginia, United States (PRWEB) May 20, 2014 -- Henninger Media Services (“Henninger”), the video post-production leader in the Mid-Atlantic region, recently launched its latest service, the Virtual Interactive Presence (“VIP”) system, which provides its clients the convenience of working with the Arlington, Virginia-based facility's talented team from a satellite location. Always seeking to identify innovative solutions to enhance the overall client experience, Henninger developed the VIP system to remove the barriers that often delay or prohibit a client's ability to collaborate with a Henninger operator and make real-time decisions on projects, unless they are physically in the suite.
Prior review and approval methods added a significant amount of time to sessions, along with other limitations that played a factor in the accuracy of what the client saw as well. Files for approval were often viewed on a client's computer or mobile device, which were restricted by various compression codecs and file sizes. “Oftentimes, when working with a client who was not physically on-site, the editor had to create a file and upload it to our secure ftp site,” shared Henninger's Senior Editor, Polly Bryan. “This was followed by a period of waiting for the client to download the file, review it, and call or email their comments, questions, or concerns.”
Henninger VIP overcomes those challenges while providing a number of benefits to clients who are restricted by time and location. Unlike other existing products on the market, VIP utilizes customized equipment that is calibrated to deliver the best looking picture in compliance with the end-user's in-house monitor. Henninger's Chief Technology Officer, Sam Crawford discussed some of the distinct features of the VIP system. “What sets VIP apart from other solutions is its ability to display a full-frame HD signal at both 1080i/59.94 and 1080p/23.976 frame rates, with latency times well under 10 seconds.” All content transmitted using the Henninger VIP system is delivered via a username and password-secured internet connection. Currently, VIP's integrity is proving to be the right fit for Half Yard Productions, a reality and documentary production company based in Bethesda, Maryland.
Over the years, the partnership between Half Yard and Henninger has developed into a trusted relationship in which producers are confident and comfortable with having Henninger colorists and audio engineers independently work on their programs. “We've worked with Henninger on a number of series in the past, so when the time came to post our latest series, ‘Filthy Riches,’ we knew we wanted to work with them again,” explained Half Yard’s Manager of Post Production & Technical Operations, Cameron Young. For the series, producers were in search of a means by which they could be involved in the color correction sessions without spending valuable time away from the office. “We collaborated with Henninger to come up with the best workflow possible. We were very excited when Henninger presented this new workflow to us,” Young added. “Once we began experimenting with VIP, I knew we were onto something that would benefit us and them simultaneously while maintaining the high standards we expect from them.” The Henninger VIP system allows Half Yard producers to screen and approve the color correction, as well as the audio mix, in one of their suites just down the hall; creating a seamless environment as though they are sitting in the same room as the Henninger colorist.
Having the capability of real-time viewing mutually benefits the client and the Henninger team member. “Henninger VIP has been really helpful on this project,” commented Henninger's Senior Video Editor and Colorist, Kevin Barker. “As a colorist on this project, it's great to have real-time interaction with the producers or editors while working. They can provide instant feedback on the look of scenes, which I can address in the DaVinci Resolve color corrector. They can immediately see the changes being made without having to be in the same room.” The added perk of being at Henninger is the accessibility of its engineers to address technical issues, as well as being able to collaborate with other members of the creative team.
Henninger VIP system is currently available for monitoring and approving editorial, color correction and stereo audio mix sessions. The system is being developed to include surround sound monitoring in the near future. “The most ideal configuration of the VIP system is going to be with dedicated hardware installed and calibrated at the satellite location for long-form projects and long-term multi-episode programs,” Crawford commented. “We do, however, recognize that there are circumstances in which the client isn't going to be in a traditional suite as well.” In the push to provide clients more flexibility, Crawford is exploring optimization for connectivity via mobile devices, such as iPads and iPhones.
