“I have loved selling our beautifully crafted and expertly engineered hidden door bookcases for the past five years,” said Peggy Reed, owner of Hidden Doors by Design. “People are impressed with the quality of our hidden doors and they’re intrigued with the idea of having a ‘secret door’ in their home. Our hidden doors are versatile pieces of furniture that also evoke a sense of mystery. Try to imagine a Nancy Drew, James Bond or Harry Potter story without a hidden door or secret passageway.”

Designed by a structural engineer, a concealed internal steel structure adds strength and rigidity without relying on rollers, tracks or traditional hinges. When closed, the hidden door bookcases are flush with the wall completely concealing the doorways. Even when fully loaded with books, they open and close with just a light touch. An optional magnetic locking system adds a nice level of security, making these hidden doors ideal for panic rooms, gun collections, safes, wine collections or anything one would like to keep out of sight.

Hidden Doors by Design builds in-swing and out-swing hidden-door bookcases in a variety of styles, sizes and woods. They also build custom styles and fixed bookcases to match its operable hidden doors – a perfect design for an office with a wall of matching bookcases where one bookcase is actually a hidden door.

“Our hidden doors have found their way into homes disguised as hidden-door bookcases and cabinets, chests of drawers in master bedroom closets, shoe cabinets, offices, pool cue cabinets and pantry cabinets,” said Reed. “Sometimes they conceal safes, gun collections, panic rooms, closets, man caves, bedrooms, storage rooms, wine cellars, music rooms, or even whole sections of a home.”

The award-winning bookcases won the Best of Show Award at the 2014 Denver Home Show and the Featured Product Designation in 2015. They were also named Hot New Product of 2011 at the Denver Home and Garden Show.
