Succeed Management Solutions has released two new HIPAA training courses. The first is a HIPAA Awareness course for all employees who may come in contact with Protected Health Information (PHI). The second is an informative primer covering HIPAA Breach and Noncompliance.

Each member of the workforce has a responsibility to protect the privacy and security of all sensitive information. Recently, Lahey Hospital and Medical Center paid an $850,000 fine after a laptop was stolen from a room that was left unlocked overnight. Failure to adequately safeguard workstations that contain patient information and to maintain policies concerning data security and workstation use also required Lahey to implement a corrective action plan to improve their HIPAA compliance program (from HHS.gov, 11/25/2015).

Individuals are also subject to HIPAA regulations. The Succeed HIPAA Awareness course is designed for employees who regularly handle PHI in their day-to-day duties. The course explains the purpose of each component of HIPAA (Privacy, Security, and Breach and Noncompliance), defines common terms, and describes the different ways sensitive information is transferred in the workplace.

The HIPAA Breach and Noncompliance course outlines breach response procedures, including the breach notification rule and potential civil and criminal penalties for violations.

Both training courses include interactive case studies, video clips, and embedded quiz questions for employees so they can actively apply their knowledge and ensure comprehension. A unique PDF handbook is included in the Breach and Noncompliance course to supplement the training.

As with all Succeed courses, this training can be assigned to employees via Training Track™, an application that is designed to automate all aspects of an employee training program. Training Track is one of the available applications in Succeed’s web-based Risk Management Center™. The Risk Management Center also contains other OSHA-required programs, training materials, and integrated software solutions.
