Hit-and-run accidents in many cases are linked to drivers who are intoxicated or have done something illegal, according to Gary Bloom, a personal injury lawyer at the Law Offices of Gary Bloom.

Hit-and-run accidents often happen because a driver is afraid of being arrested. Failing to stop for an accident, however, is an illegal and cowardly act.

Detroit hit-and-run accident lawyer Gary Bloom of the Law Offices of Gary Bloom said today that recent car accidents in the Detroit area serve as a reminder to all drivers that drunk driving and fleeing the scene of a car accident can have devastating consequences.

According to CBS Detroit (“Woman Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash,” October 31), Detroit police suspect alcohol was a factor in a hit-and-run crash in late October that claimed the life of a woman on the city’s lower east side.

“A driver who is drunk and causes an accident might want to flee the scene to avoid being caught. Hit-and-run accidents often happen because a driver is afraid of being arrested,” said Bloom, who represents victims of negligence and families who lost loved ones in accidents. “Failing to stop for an accident, however, is an illegal and cowardly act. An injured person might need the person who caused the accident to contact an ambulance. By fleeing, the driver might be leaving the injured victim to die.”

Bloom said drivers in accidents should always stop and exchange information and call for medical help if necessary.

CBS Detroit said that the accident happened on a Thursday night in late October at approximately 3 a.m. at the corner of Alter Road and Mack Avenue. According to the article, the police report indicates that a van crashed into the side of an SUV, killing a woman who was a passenger inside the SUV.

After the collision, according to the article, the driver of the van fled the scene of the accident. CBS Detroit said that police caught up to the driver shortly afterward and that the driver reportedly showed signs of intoxication.

Bloom said attorneys can help victims of hit-and-run accidents and families who lost loved ones in accidents pursue compensation. An attorney can hold the negligent individual accountable and help send a message that careless behavior will not be tolerated on Michigan roads.
