We know the big names and events, but I want to share the story of the small ‘nameless’ people and events that still made a huge impact.”

Many people don’t know England had an army in Canada ready to invade against the northern army during the American Civil War. And it’s often overlooked that the last significant naval battle ending the life of the southern raider and blockaid runner Alabama took place off the coast of France. These are but a few of the historical facts unveiled in H. McColgan’s new book, “White Shamrock” (published by AuthorHouse).

McColgan, a history enthusiast, reveals his global perspective on the Civil War in the form of a historical fiction novel. He weaves historical figures and events into the life stories of families from Ireland, London and even a Georgia plantation. The survival of international families and businesses all hinged on the trade of one little product: cotton.

“Every American child studies the Civil War in school,” says McColgan. “But few know about the worldwide effect of that war. We know the big names and events, but I want to share the story of the small ‘nameless’ people and events that still made a huge impact.”
