HNTB recently partnered with 10 departments of transportation from across the country to assist in the successful development of their National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Infrastructure Program implementation plans.
The firm provided consulting services to state departments of transportation in Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin,. HNTB also consulted with the Washington D.C. Department of Transportation to assist in the development of their NEVI plan.
Each plan outlines how the individual states will build out an electric vehicle charging network to support the expansion of electric vehicle use, including a focus on specific benchmarks around issues of equity, sustainability, workforce development, safety and cyber security, among others.
“The successful development of these states’ long-term plans highlights the power of collaboration and information sharing,” said Katie Zehnder, HNTB technical lead. “Given the changing dynamics and requirements around the development of electric vehicle infrastructure, the ability to partner with multiple agencies and sharing information and best practices is helping these agencies deliver on the promise of enhanced and innovative mobility solutions through electrification.”
With approved plans from federal transportation officials, state departments of transportation may now utilize their portion of the formula funding provided through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs act to each state for these purposes, as well as apply for additional grant funding set aside to support the implementation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
“Our firm is committed to partnering with our clients and industry leadership to address the critical issues and challenges related to the future of mobility innovation,” said John Barton, HNTB DOT market sector leader, professional services chair and senior vice president. “We understand the necessary steps that it will take to deliver enhanced and equitable transportation systems that can best serve local communities.”
