San Mateo, CA (PRWEB) June 27, 2014 -- The Summer Fair Racing Season is here, and so are major changes for racing in Southern California. The San Mateo Jockey Club is preparing for all the upcoming races and the recent changes.
Here in Northern California, the Alameda County Fair is in full swing until July 6. It will be followed by the California State Fair, from July 11-20. The Jockey Club will remain open on Wednesdays for out-of-state imports, as the California tracks are running a Thursday through Sunday schedule. Cal-Expo will be followed by the Sonoma County Fair.
In Southern California, the circuit will move to Los Alamitos Race Course, a new move now that Hollywood Park has closed. Los Alamitos renovated its track to a full one-mile oval, and features a super-long homestretch run of 1,380 feet. The horses will run at Los Al from July 3-13, then move to “Where the Turf meets the Surf” down at old Del Mar. There, from July 17 through September 3, California racing will be five days a week again, not just four.
Del Mar will run on Wednesdays from July 23 to August 27. Del Mar will also be hosting the Breeders’ Cup in 2017. It’s a bit too early to reserve a table in the Turf Club for the 2017 Breeders’ Cup, but not for 2014. Call the Turf Hostess Carla at (650) 574-6069 to make reservations.
