How Fate Brought a Jewish and Chinese Family Together in Shanghai During World War II
LOCUST, N.J. (PRWEB) January 15, 2019 -- A Jewish family fled the Nazis, while at the same time a Chinese family fights to survive the horrors of the Japanese invasion, in George Kolber and Charles Kolber’s new book, “Thrown upon the World: A True Story” (published by Archway Press), based on an inspiring true story of survival of their two families during World War II. The book is available for purchase at: https://www.amazon.com/Thrown-Upon-World-True-Story-ebook/dp/B07FBHRSJK.
The Kolbers write about a Jewish family’s perilous escape from the Nazis while a Chinese family flee the Japanese, both finding refuge in Shanghai. There the Jewish son, Walter Kolber, and the Chinese daughter, Chao Chen, are brought together through music resulting in a forbidden marriage. Then the story describes the tragedy that befalls the couple and their children, as they try to find a new life in the postwar years.
“We believe this is an important story of our families’ survival, from different cultural backgrounds (Jewish and Chinese) whose lives intersect during the backdrop of WWII. We are children from that relationship,” the Kolbers say, adding that they hope their book promotes a better understanding of the Holocaust and human rights.
