GMO Patents for Increasing Leguminous Plant Production by 30% Available from ICAP Patent Brokerage
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 11, 2014 -- ICAP Patent Brokerage announces for sale new methods of increasing the survival of Rhizobium bacteria and improving phosphate solubilization, resulting in leguminous plant growth increases of 30%. This IP package, with priority dates from 2005, is available via private sale.
“This a first for us, in terms of offering a GMO technology to the marketplace. We’re excited to be brokering this in conjunction with our Italian partners at Quantum Leap IP,” says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.
“The technology comes from the CNR (Italian National Research Council), at the cutting edge of scientific excellence,” says Emilia Garito, CEO and founder of Quantum Leap IP, of Rome, Italy.
Key Characteristics & Benefits
Legume production accounts for 22% of harvested area worldwide. Legumes are a protein source for more than 2 billion people in the world, with a global market upwards of $40 billion. This patent portfolio protects methods to increase the availability of fertilizers for vegetal growth and increase overall yield, resulting in a potential increase of leguminous plant production of 30%, compared to the use of standard bacteria.
The results are achieved by increasing the survival of Rhizobium bacteria, a nitrogen-fixing diazotroph, by means of genetic engineering, and by improving phosphate solubilization in plants. In testing, plants showed higher rates of nitrogen conversion to ammonia, ‘harrier’ roots (with an increase in secondary offshoots), and improved growth in adverse, salty soils and low phosphate conditions. This technology requires no modification of cultivation procedures, no use of fertilizers, and no additional costs for seed treatment or culture process.
