ICAP Patent Brokerage announces for sale patents which describe an apparatus that enables breath actuation for a broad array of devices (e.g., smartphones, computers, cars, and medical devices). This portfolio is available from inventor Theodosios Kountotsis as part of the Internet of Things IP Auction, with a bidding deadline of April 23rd, 2015.

“This technology allows the integration of breath analysis into virtually any system. Its implications range from biometric security to health care and accident prevention,” says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.

Key Characteristics & Benefits
With priority dates from 2011, the disclosed portfolio describes an apparatus that enables breath actuation for a broad array of electronic and non-electronic devices (e.g., smartphones, computers, and motorized vehicles, cars, and medical devices). The apparatus is comprised of an input unit that receives an initial breath sample and an analysis module to detect trace volatile organic compounds from the initial breath sample—the composition of which distinguishes one user profile from another—and either allows and/or prevents access to a given device via a locking mechanism. The apparatus may also include a storage unit to house initial breath samples and subsequent breath inputs. The portfolio includes an application for a pacifier that receives breath and saliva samples, which may be used to provide parents and postnatal medical staff with real-time nutritional information in order to avoid allergic reactions and prevent overfeeding or underfeeding. Breathalyzer markets, at $284.6 million in 2011, are anticipated to reach $3.2 billion in 2018, in large part from development of a new market for breath analysis as a healthcare diagnostic tool(1).
