ICAP Patent Brokerage announces for sale patents disclosing a method of multi-key encryption that circumvents the need for key exchange, available from The University Court of the University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK. This portfolio is offered as part of the Internet of Things IP Auction, with a bidding deadline of July 30th, 2015.

“This is a robust method of encryption with the added advantage of avoiding key exchange, which greatly reduces its vulnerability to hacking,” says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.

Key Characteristics & Benefits
While many known encryption techniques are highly effective, they are either very complex or they require the encryption keys to be exchanged at some stage in order to allow the person receiving a message encrypted by one party to decrypt and thereby read that message. In many systems, the key exchange process is vulnerable to attack by a hacker.

With a 2008 priority date, the disclosed portfolio describes a device and method for securing communications between two parties (e.g., electronic messages or documents) without requiring the transfer of an encryption key between the parties. The technique comprises encrypting a message with two randomly generated keys—one associated with each party or device—and decrypting the message using the key from the first party and subsequently decrypting the message using the key from the second, thereby exposing the original message.
