IDL Worldwide’s Gallery 135 Partners with Skate Portland for Go Skateboarding Day

Gallery 135 and IDL Worldwide are about giving back to our local community. In doing so, we’ve proudly partnered with Skate Portland in order to raise funds and awareness for the local skateboarding community.

IDL Worldwide's Gallery 135, a creative resource for the Portland creative community, is partnering with Skate Portland for Go Skateboarding Day, an annual holiday established by the International Association of Skateboard Companies to promote and support the global skateboarding community.

On a mission to better the community and city of Portland through the creation of 19 skate parks, #GOSKATEPDX is celebrating Go Skateboarding Day with a city-wide celebration on June 21st to help raise awareness and funds.

Jake Pacheco, IDL Creative Lead and Curator at Gallery 135, explains, “Gallery 135 and IDL Worldwide are about giving back to our local community. In doing so, we’ve proudly partnered with Skate Portland in order to raise funds and awareness for the local skateboarding community.”

Skateboarders, artists, designers and photographers alike will come together to Portland’s Pearl district at Gallery 135 for an evening full of art, music and food. In addition to a live mural painting, participants will be able to partake in activities guaranteed to interest attendees of all ages, including a children oriented creative workshop, shop from event vendors and play for a chance to win raffle prizes.

Donated by Portland’s creative community of artists, designers and photographers, will be 25 exclusive pieces of local art, as well as a handful of boom boxes made from recycled skateboard decks, created by Case of Bass. All of the pieces will be on display in Gallery 135, open for bid.

The twenty-plus group of participating artists includes: Nishat Akhtar, Alexender Barrett, Antonio Brasko, Will Bryant, Josh Boston, Joe Carolino, Jordan Domont, Bobby Escobedo, AJ Fosik, Gage Hamilton, Kyle Hittner, Klutch, Dillon Lawrence, Justin Morris, Richard Perez, Murphy Phelan, Amy Ruppel, Nick Stokes, Rather Severe, Michael Skattum, Jason Sturgill, Andy Thompson, Tom O’Toole, Tim Weakland, Lloyd Eugene Winter IV, and Leo Zarosinski.

In the true spirit of Go Skateboarding Day, NW Park Ave will be shut down and transformed into a mini skate park, including a 1/4 pipe, with a built-in sound system, donated by Case of Bass. The skate park will be available for skate sessions, for a minimal donation.

In 2009, The Wall Street Journal described Portland, Oregon as the skateboarding capital of the world for its comprehensive plan to build a network of 19 skate parks throughout the city. #GOSKATEPDX seeks to increase awareness and raise funds for completing this goal and bettering the Portland community by partnering with Gallery 135 and IDL Worldwide for its 2014 event.
