Succeed Management Solutions, LLC Introduces an IIPP (Injury and Illness Prevention Program) Consulting Service to Address OSHA’s Increasing Emphasis on IIPPs
(PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Within the past year, one safety manager was sentenced to over 6 years in prison for “falsifying records of workplace injuries.” The former safety manager had deliberately falsified injury and illness records in order to obtain bonuses of over $2.5 million. Dr. David Michaels, the assistant secretary of labor for occupational safety and health, explains: “Injured workers were denied or delayed medical treatment. Underlying workplace safety issues went unaddressed. There is a better way. A comprehensive injury and illness prevention program in which employers commit to finding and fixing hazards can achieve real safety in the workplace.” (Article here)
OSHA has recently been placing an enhanced emphasis on Injury and Illness Prevention Programs, also known as IIPPs. With the roll-out of their Consultation Program, OSHA has been evaluating workplaces and helping to establish IIPPs to ensure compliance with OSHA standards. OSHA has also found a study that shows a “link between occupational safety and health and improved financial performance.” The study shows that there’s a pronounced correlation between a strong safety culture and improved stock market value. Putting together a comprehensive IIPP is an important step to stay compliant, reduce costs associated with injuries, and protect workers. IIPPs are required in 15 states and are a best practice that prevents losses and reduces the total cost of risk for organizations. OSHA explains that the essential components of an IIPP are “management leadership, worker participation, hazard identification, hazard prevention and control, education and training, and program evaluation and improvement.” (Article here)
