EC-Council Global CISO Forum Podcast: CISOs - Check Your Egos at the Door
Albuquerque, NM (PRWEB) March 09, 2015 -- VP of Simeio Solutions, Ed Pascua’s favorite part of his job as an advisor to CISO s is the opportunity to learn something from everyone he meets. He sees this willingness to constantly be learning as one of the drivers of his success. “I don’t go through one day … without learning something. And I can’t see what’s more important than that.”
Starting with his unusual path up to executive infosec management, Ed Pascua has had an interesting career. Pascua started his career as a business manager but found that his natural ability and affinity for IT translated well to serving his customers. Pascua credits the fact that he began his career with his eye on the bottom line and on growing his business, he approaches information security challenges differently than the typical infosec expert might, saying “ … technology doesn’t exist for the sake of technology. It exists to solve business problems.” His focus is on helping his teams understand the business impact of the technology they are supporting in order to provide better service and get better results.
He goes on to emphasize “You cannot ever learn anything with your ego so high, so what you have to do … is you have to view everyone you talk to … as someone who is worthy of learning something from. When you view everybody like that, it’s easy to be in a mode where you’re receptive and you can learn something.” He urges CISOs not to be defensive and hostile to new information, as he’s seen those types of executives making mistakes that advice from others could have prevented.
