Cosmetic dentistry is becoming more desirable, and understanding proper adhesive and bonding techniques is paramount to successful restorations.
This month on Inside Dentistry’s debate series, “The Roundtable,” our expert panel focuses on adhesion and preferred protocols. It seems like a simple process, but in many cases, failure to follow the directions of the product can lead to sensitivity for patients and even failed restorations.
“If you asked me 20 years ago what the ideal future would be, I would say the same thing as I do today—a self-adhesive composite that interacts with tooth structure that actually becomes a part of the tooth. I don’t know if I will ever see that but for now, I would be happy if dentists did it the right way with what they have in their hands,” says Dr. Gerard Kugel, editor-in-chief of Inside Dentistry.
This month’s panelists include Lee Ann Brady, DMD, the Director of Education for Clinical Mastery, a series of hands-on education programs focused on occlusion and restorative dentistry. She is the owner of Desert Sun Smile Dental Care, a private restorative-focused practice in Glendale, AZ. Gerard Kugel, DMD, MS, PhD, is the Associate Dean for Research and Professor of Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. He also maintains a private practice in Boston, MA. Robert A. Lowe, DDS, FAGD, FICD, FADI, FACD, is in private practice in Charlotte, NC. He has been nominated to receive diplomate status on the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry, an honor shared by fewer than 50 dentists in the United States.
