Crystal Schlueter, a teacher with over thirty years of classroom experience, has completed her new book “Not Just Famous!”: a children’s book that follows Diane, a little girl whose many skills—in art, athletics, and academics—convince the adults around her that she will be famous for something one day. However, the love for school that Diane had as a child follows her into adulthood as she makes the decision to devote her life to teaching instead of pursuing fame and fortune.
“Over the past three decades, I have worked with many dedicated teachers, and I know I speak for most of us when I say that one of our greatest joys is meeting previous students and seeing them continue to develop into fine young men and women, fulfilling their potential, and making the world a better place through a myriad of occupations,” Crystal Schlueter said of her own passion for teaching.
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Crystal Schlueter’s book is accompanied by vivid illustrations that assist young readers to follow along with the plot, and that bring the story to life.
The book is intended for younger audiences; however, it avoids the trap of speaking down to the readers and insulting their intelligence and emotional capability. As Diane progresses through her life and leaves an impact on her students, she grows ill and is hospitalized. As all of her current and former students hear of her tragedy, they visit her bedside and send cards and well-wishes. This story humanizes teachers to children who may see them as one-dimensional. It also aims to help children realize that teachers, and all adults, were children once too, and that sometimes the greatest aspiration is not for personal gain, but is instead what one person can do for many.
Teachers, parents, guardians, or any readers who wish to read this heartfelt and inspiring story can purchase “Not Just Famous!” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
