Stephen M. Holt Sr.’s New Christian Thriller Boldly Addresses Contemporary Issues
Abilene, Texas (PRWEB) February 26, 2014 -- In author Stephen M. Holt Sr.’s new novel, “Intentional: In Jesus’ name we play” (published by WestBow Press), a basketball superstar sets out to give Christianity a good name, and in doing so, pays a hefty price.
Trey Glass’ quest to live an intentional life for God connects him with those most unlike himself. But his real troubles, however, come from the world of religion, where he clashes head-on with racism, homophobia, hypocrisy, bitterness and cynicism, which may cause some readers to ask, “Is Trey Glass the face of next generation’s Christian?”
Although he could afford a life of luxury and excess, Trey chooses to live in a depressed inner-city Memphis, Tenn., neighborhood. He befriends a cast of unlikely characters, including the man who murdered his father. Trey freely gives his time and resources to those in need, falls in love with a beautiful Latina doctor, hires a gay chef, bails out a group of street gamblers, is left for dead by a street gang, barely survives another vicious attack and is judged harshly by the religious people in Memphis.
Throughout the book, Trey faces a variety of contemporary issues and struggles to make sense of them from his world of faith. Despite it all, he’s never been happier, and his joy is contagious.
“It’s very difficult to live in today’s world as a true follower of Jesus Christ,” Holt says. “This book is perfect for high school and college teams, ministries to youth and young adults because it addresses many of the difficult issues young people face. ‘Intentional’ provides younger generations a model and a method for walking as Jesus walked. This isn’t your typical Christian book, and many of the hero’s actions may surprise, even offend, some believers.”
