Learn Ways to Prevent Heart Disease with Interim at the Oak Park Arms
(PRWEB) February 07, 2014 -- A representative from Interim HealthCare will present a talk titled “Heart Disease” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Oak Park Arms retirement community, 408 S. Oak Park Ave. The seminar is part of the ongoing monthly series called, “Here’s To Your Health,” and February is Heart Awareness Month.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women in the United States, and about 600,000 people die of heart disease in the US annually.
Risk factors for developing heart disease include:
• having diabetes
• being overweight or obese
• a poor diet
• being physically inactive
• excessive alcohol use
• high blood pressure
• high LDL cholesterol
• smoking
There are a number of ways people can help prevent heart disease. Avoiding tobacco use, increasing exercise and eating a healthy diet low in saturated and trans fats and high in fruits and vegetables are three easy ways to help ensure a healthy heart. In addition, regular health screenings for conditions such as diabetes, blood pressure and cholesterol levels help detect a potential problem before it becomes unmanageable.
Warning signs of heart attacks include chest pain, shortness of breath, nausea, lightheadedness or cold sweats and upper body pain or discomfort in the arms, back, neck, jaw or upper stomach.
Interim Healthcare will discuss heart disease, and ways to recognize, treat and prevent this condition.
