Introducing Transportation Planning's First Conference on Virtual Public Engagement
This September, community engagement and transportation planning professionals will compare experiences, case studies, tools and techniques in the first ever peer-to-peer conference to guide the future of virtual public engagement!
VANCOUVER, B.C., Aug. 23, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Host of the industry's most popular webinars on online public engagement, MetroQuest is once again taking the lead on virtual engagement education with the announcement of the inaugural Conference on Virtual Public Engagement for Transportation Planning (VPET21).
The one-day virtual event will take place on September 28th and will feature some of the biggest names in public engagement across the United States. The conference will explore the dramatic transformation of online engagement for transportation planning. Speakers from New York City Department of Transportation, Maryland Department of Transportation, Puget Sound Regional Council, WSP, HNTB, and notable transit and planning agencies from across the country will come together to uncover the tools, strategies, and best practices for public engagement in the post-pandemic age. They will highlight case studies of equitable engagement, share methods to capture actionable data, demonstrate the meaningful impact that community engagement can have on public projects, and more.
"MetroQuest has over 20 years of experience in public engagement, and we host the industry's most popular educational webinars on this rapidly evolving practice," said Dave Biggs, MetroQuest's Chief Engagement Officer and one of the hosts of the upcoming conference, "We have a responsibility to stay on top of best practices in this exciting industry. It gives us great pleasure to host this conference to facilitate quality peer-to-peer learning and support the development of the ongoing conversation on equitable and meaningful public involvement to support great transportation planning."
When COVID-19 took face-to-face public meetings off the table, transportation planners and public engagement practitioners had to radically change the way they engage. A new emphasis on virtual public meetings, online surveys, and other methods of digital engagement prompted sweeping change across the industry—a shift that is here to stay even as restrictions lift in many parts of the country. With an eye towards answering questions around the future of public involvement, the Conference on Virtual Public Engagement for Transportation Planning is a stepping-stone for industry experts to share their biggest successes and lessons learned as, together, we map the transforming landscape of digital community engagement.
The conference is co-sponsored by the American Planning Association (APA) and the National Coalition of Dialogue and Deliberation (NCDD). Professional planners who participate will earn AICP CM credit.
