"As manager of Respiratory Care Services, I observed the large number of patients ordered on this form of therapy both within the hospital and once discharged to home," said an inventor from Clearwater, Fla. "I made note of the indentations in the patient’s face once the device was removed. I also have noticed the same marks on numerous other faces at work and among the general public as I go about my life. In addition, I also have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea."
She developed the patent-pending CPAP BUDDIES to prevent the CPAP mask from forming indentations on the face. The accessory relieves pressure to make the mask more comfortable. This prevents the patient from being distracted by the mask at night, which helps promote more restful sleep. The unit also saves the patient from potential embarrassment caused by indentations on the face. In addition, the invention encourages patients to use their CPAP masks as prescribed.
