InventHelp Inventors Transform Walkers for Rehab Patients (SDB-670)

InventHelp, based in Pittsburgh, is submitting this idea, the DUAL WALK AGAIN SYSTEM, to companies for their review.

With nearly 3 million victims of traumatic brain injuries and strokes every year in the United States (source:, exercise machinery and rehab equipment for patients learning to walk again are vital. Unfortunately, current equipment is insufficient and lacking in many facilities. Many patients miss that window of opportunity to walk again because they don't get the needed rehabilitation. However, that is no longer true, thanks to the creativity of two inventors in Ramona, California.

They've developed prototypes for a DUAL WALK AGAIN SYSTEM, which is safe, easy to use, and easy to store, and can be used at home as well as in a facility. The unique walker part of the system allows the user to exercise and rehabilitate for longer periods of time by permitting the user to rest safely in the walker in between intervals of exercise, instead of having to be put back in the wheelchair. More time spent using the equipment helps promote a faster rehabilitation.

The inventors' personal experience inspired the idea. “A motorcycle accident left our son-in-law confined to a wheelchair due to a brain injury,” one of them said. “There were two noticeable problems standing in the way of him walking again: he wasn't getting adequate access to the rehab facility, due to insurance restrictions, and the facility equipment was limited. Now he can rehabilitate any time he wants and for as long as he wants!”

The original design was submitted to the San Diego office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
