Gasoline Pump Spillage Prevention Device Invented by InventHelp Client (BGF-2008)

Pittsburgh-based InventHelp is working to submit this idea, the GAS PUMP BUDDY, to companies for their consideration.

It is common for gasoline pumps to drip gasoline once fueling is complete. This spillage is a safety hazard, increasing the chances of a fire or explosion at the facility. Once the gasoline hits the ground, it can be swept away into sewers, drains and waterways, which is harmful to the environment. Additionally, this unnecessary spillage creates unnecessary expenses for both the motorist and the gasoline station.

An inventor from Ypsilanti, Mich. has invented GAS PUMP BUDDY, a device that captures and recovers any droplets of fuel remaining following fill-up at a gas station. GAS PUMP BUDDY serves as a backup for the original factory holding valve in the handle of the pump. It is designed to automatically seal the nozzle once fueling is complete.

This device is environmentally-friendly, preventing spillage of excess gasoline. Additionally, it prevents unnecessary gasoline contact with a motorist's shoes, clothing, or hands, eliminating the risk of lingering noxious odors. "My invention saves money for both gas stations and motorists, is eco-friendly and decreases gasoline spillage, which is a safety hazard," said the inventor.

GAS PUMP BUDDY is designed to fit traditional gasoline pump nozzles, but could also be designed to integrate into new-production pump design. This practical device could eventually save enough gasoline that it could help to further reduce this country’s dependency upon foreign oil. Also, it prevents getting fuel on one's body or clothing.
