Until now, those with leg or foot injuries have had to rely on standard crutches or walkers to keep mobile. Thanks to an inventor from Suffolk, Va., however, these walking aids can be made much more effective.
He developed a prototype for the patent-pending SUPPORT AID FOR MOBILITY to not only immobilize an injured leg or foot but provide comfort and reduce pain for those using crutches and walkers. Designed to adjust to different heights, it is also convenient and easy to install on the crutch or walker.
In place, it protects the injured foot or leg from further trauma by keeping it off the floor. Since it keeps weight off the injured area, it helps speed recovery time. In addition, its simple design keeps fabrication costs to a minimum.
The inventor was inspired to create this idea when he was hospitalized for foot surgery. "I tried using crutches and a walker and found them both inadequate," he said. "I wanted to find a way to make them more effective."
The original design was submitted to the Virginia Beach office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
