Pittsburgh-based InventHelp attempts to submit an invention, Up-Helper, to companies for review.

After her C-section an inventor from Baltimore, Md., rubbed her elbows raw while using them to lift herself up, and she saw her father having the same problem during a hospital stay. "This inspired me to design a way to prevent this problem," she said.

The UP-HELPER helps a user lift him- or herself up. It also helps prevent injury. Overall, it promotes comfort, mobility and independence. Easy to use and ergonomic, the invention can be produced in design variations.

The original design was submitted to the Baltimore office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
