James Kelly, former sous chef of Babbo, pegged as new exec chef at In Vino—a popular East Village Italian mainstay with a serious focus on wine.

In Vino has become an LES neighborhood staple and looks forward to continuing that legacy and welcomes James Kelly with enthusiasm.

A native of Pennsylvania, James Kelly has been working under the tutelage of Mario Batali and Babbo executive chef Frank Langello for two years. With all that he has learned he is ready to step out on his own, and become executive chef of NYC's East Village Italian mainstay In Vino on Fourth Street in Alphabet City. Kelly brings an attention to seasonal ingredients and a focus on fresh dishes from house made salumi to in-house prepared gelato and sorbet. He is excited to be stepping out on his own for the first time, and In Vino owner Keith Beavers, along with his staff, is more than elated at Kelly’s arrival--he steps into the role on July 1, 2014.

About In Vino
In Vino opened its doors in 2003 as an Italian wine bar focused solely on wines from Southern Italy. It wasn’t until 2005 that a full kitchen was installed and the wine list expanded to encompass all of Italy. Owner Keith Beavers has always been a stickler for wine education and used In Vino, as well as his former wine shop Alphabet City Wine Co., to spread his love of wine to others with no pretense—all aimed at having fun and enjoying wine. In Vino has always been a place to come to and enjoy rustic Italian cuisine and can boast of a celebrated wine list in a welcome wine cave setting (Opentable Diner’s Choice top 100 Most Notable Wine Lists of 2013). Tess Rose Lampert joins Beavers at the restaurant nightly acting as Wine Director and Manager of Operations, while Beavers plays an active role at the restaurant and is responsible for selecting the wines. Over the years, In Vino has become an LES neighborhood staple and looks forward to continuing that legacy and welcomes James Kelly with enthusiasm.

James Kelly Bio
Two years ago James moved to New York City from Pennsylvania and hit the ground running landing a job in the kitchen at Babbo. He worked his way up to Sous Chef within seven months gaining the respect of his colleagues and has been an anchor in the kitchen ever since. He thrives on seasonality keeping his ingredients as local as possible with frequent visits to New York City’s Farmers' Markets.

Keith Beavers Bio
Keith Beavers is the owner of In Vino and former co-owner of Alphabet City Wine Co. He is a self-taught “wine geek” who left the music industry in 2001 and became a server at Max on Avenue B. There he fell in love with the East Village and wine and has spent over a decade teaching and pouring in New York City. Beavers is an active Twitter user at @In_Vino_NYC.
