Jamaica Plain, MA (PRWEB) October 06, 2014 -- Author Irvy Lindsey’s new book, “Marsha goes to Haiti” (published by AuthorHouse), is the illustrated story of her daughter’s first trip to Haiti.
Marsha is an 8-year-old Haitian American whose mother emigrated to the U.S. from Haiti. Usually Marsha’s grandparents come to the U.S. to visit, but this year Marsha and her family are going to Haiti instead.
The idea of going to Haiti for the first time is very exciting for young Marsha. Her teenage brothers tease her endlessly over her sense of amazement and curiosity; but others, like the airline workers, catch on to Marsha’s excitement.
An excerpt from “Marsha goes to Haiti”:
“Then the pilot said: ‘Merci d’avoir voyagés avec nous. Merci pour votre compagnie. Marsha, nous voici arrivés. Amuse-toi bien durant tes vacances. Ne mange pas tout. Laisse un petit peu pour moi. J’aime la mangue, la canne-á-sucre, l’ananas, les quénèpes. J’ai dejá l’eau á la bouche.’ (Thank you for travelling with us. Thank you for your company. Marsha, enjoy your vacation. Do not eat everything. Leave some for me. I like mango, sugar cane, pineapple, quenepas. Yummy.’)”
Lindsey hopes the story will help adults see the world with wonder again, as if through the eyes of a child.
